ARE YOU THNKING ABOUT PUTTING YOUR BIKE UP FOR THE OFF SEASON?
A little preventative maintenance can go along way! These days much of our work is done cleaning and rebuilding fuel systems on motorcycles. The source of the problem stems from the ethanol added to our fuel. It is at minimum a 10% blend but we believe often even higher.
To help prevent the problems that ethanol-laden fuel creates, here are a few helpful tips: Because ethanol-laden fuel degrades quickly, buy the freshest gas possible by frequenting busy gas stations that refill tanks often. Watch for “phase transitioned fuel” with gasoline that contains “E10 ethanol”. The alcohol absorbs water from the air and when temps drop below 60 degrees, the alcohol will start to shed the water. The water drops to the bottom of the float bowl and gas tank and when starting you draw in water instead of flammable fuel. Unit will not start or run correctly.
If you plan to park your bike we recommend stabilizing your fuel, draining your carburetors if equipped and keep your battery on a trickle charger when not in use. If you have questions on how to take care of these suggestions please call us for assistance.
