FS: 2016 BMW R1200R – WB10A1400GZ197347 – 9,349 miles – $9,999.00

This BMW “water boxer” R1200R makes for such a great all around motorcycle, toss some bags on and go cover some ground, pull them off but maybe just leave the top trunk and you will not be late for work!  This one came to us fresh from the BMW dealer where it received the recommended annual service along with a new set of Michelin Road 5’s.   It is a one owner machine, used primarily as a commuter from Bainbridge Island to Redmond.  Owner moved back into the city and there are only so many parking spots in today’s city dwellings.

This low mileage BMW R1200R is set up for touring with a windshield and a set of BMW side case and 28 lt top case.  It includes these factory options: DTC (Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic ESA, Keyless Ride, Headlight Pro, On Board Computer Pro, Gear Shift Assist Pro, Ride Modes Pro, Comfort Package, Touring Package, Tank Cover Pure, Navigator V GPS, Chrome Exhaust Pipe, Heated Grips, TPM (Tire Pressure Monitor), Cruise Control, Engine Spoiler and Center Stand.

In additional there are some nice upgrades as well

  • Factory Akrapovic Sport titanium silencer and carbon heat shield
  • Machine Art Moto cylinder head guards and splash guard/rear fender
  • Dynamic Mottorad turn signal bulbs on all 4 blinkers- super bright!
  • 2x ram ball mounts on mirrors

Here are a few press comments;

It was an all-new BMW R 1200 R last year, which featured the liquid-/oil-cooled boxer motor previously used in the GS and RT models. The R 1200 R has a new chassis, that includes traditional inverted forks and a EVO Paralever rear suspension system.  The power is the same as the GS models, with an all-street chassis. The R 1200 R offers traction control and electronic suspension as an option. Other forays into the BMW catalog can turn the R into a light-duty sport tourer.

There is nothing on the road that sounds like or feels like a BMW boxer twin. Just swing a leg over any model thusly equipped, turn the key — or in this case with optional Keyless Ride remote — stab the starter button, and one is treated to the unique bark of the, now, 1170cc motor.  Give it a quick rev and feel the bike’s signature tug to the left. If you are a fan, or even an open-minded newcomer to the marque, you will feel that certain something that accompanies a unique experience.   For an engine with an architecture that traces its lineage to 1923, the boxer is still remarkably relevant. Much has been improved and refined, of course, and in recent years we have seen the addition of modern add-ons such as overhead cams and, most recently, liquid cooling — but the uninitiated might ask, “Why bother?”

The answer is not only in the charm evoked by the boxer’s connection to the past, but also in the many positive practical attributes of the design — the characteristics of power production and the particular balance it has within the chassis.  The water boxer powering the all-new 2015 BMW R1200R roadster has a kind of low-end grunt that is the envy of most similarly displaced V-twins. It delivers massive thrust right off idle as it charges through the gears, yet is never harsh.  The BMW R1200R is beautifully crafted, amazingly well thought out, all-day comfortable, and ultimately a satisfying entry in the Standard category it helps define. It is retro if you want it to be, but willing, able, and modern enough to meet the demands of today’s serious riders.
